Student concerts in 2020. Great music, prepared for your enjoyment.

Student concerts in 2020 were a mixture of live and online events. The year 2020 began, in January, with a live concert by the Peacherine Ragtime Society Orchestra. The concert was fun, and the band played to a packed house. Ascencion Music Academy students warmed up the audience with lively music from the early 1900s. Our students played and sang well, and the concert-goers loved them. We all learned much about ragtime, the musical ancestor of jazz.

Why virtual student concerts?

By mid-March, 2020 had become the year of safer-at-home. People everywhere worked and played from home because of the global COVID crisis. Initially, when we had to cancel our April and June concerts, we were disappointed. Later, we realized that if we could take our teaching online, we could take our concerts online, too.

Creating our virtual shows.

In total, Ascencion Music Academy presented two student shows online in 2020. Our July Summer Showcase featured recordings students made at home, while our November Fall Showcase featured recordings we made in the studio. First, to create the finished projects, Ms. Cathy edited the individual videos together, assembling them into short compilations. Then, she posted the showcases online for private viewing by our students and their families.

Would you like to see the showcases? First, you’ll need to contact your favorite Ascencion Music Academy student to get the necessary code. Then, you can click here to enjoy! And, please feel free to leave a positive comment or two!

Holiday Performance

poster for Christmas Concert

December 22, 2020, while you were wrapping presents, making cookies or just relaxing after dinner, we entertained you in the comfort of your own home. Donations went to our local SPCA, to support their good works. All was made possible by Dare Arts. Merry Christmas all!

Other Events – Music Festivals

In addition to concert performances, nine of our students participated in performance festival events put on by both the North Carolina Music Teachers Association (NCMTA) and the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS). These non-competitive events allowed students to present their performances for judging and commentary – an admirable way to further musical education. These events were a mixture of in-person and online, depending on what time of year they were held.
